Sometimes, a gap between the two front teeth can become a personal trademark—something that makes you feel unique. For others, however, it can be a real point of insecurity.

There’s nothing medically wrong with having a gap in between your teeth, so treatment isn’t strictly necessary; however, if you want to fix it for purely aesthetic reasons, there are also plenty of options available to help you. Here are some of the best ways to close the gap between two front teeth.

Braces

The thing your dentist is most likely to recommend if you have gapped teeth is braces. The exact length of the treatment depends on the severity of the gap and how quickly your teeth can move.

If you aren’t necessarily interested in traditional metal braces, your dentist can also make use of clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth just as effectively. These plastic trays put pressure on your teeth, pushing them together over time. Unlike traditional braces, these aligners are perfectly discreet. They’re also removable, meaning you won’t have to make any changes to your diet.

Whichever orthodontic option you choose, you’ll still probably have to get a full set—moving just two teeth tends to move others as well, so it’s usually not recommended to get braces on just your incisors.

Veneers or Dental Bonding

Maybe you aren’t interested in moving your teeth at all; that’s ok! As it turns out, it’s also possible to close the gap between your teeth with veneers or dental bonding. Your dentist can layer either of these on top of your teeth, covering them completely. This can give you the appearance of having a perfect smile.

Dental Implants or Bridges

The above solutions can be helpful, but in some cases, they may not address the underlying reason why you have gapped teeth in the first place. Sometimes, missing a tooth can cause the other teeth to try and fill the hole, so the teeth will have more space in between them.

Your dentist can address the gapped teeth with either of the above two options, but they may need to also replace the missing tooth to ensure that the others don’t move back into place.

As was mentioned, it isn’t strictly necessary to close a gap; but if doing it would improve your confidence, then there’s no reason not to take advantage of the many options at your disposal.
